We had a long line and a big crowd for breakfast service. A great crew of volunteers and residents were able to fill in the gaps. Kudos to them! We did have to cut off the line after serving 360 plates. Many people lingered on a cold morning. Thank you to our supporters.

This arrived in our mail from a previous diner along with a $100 check. He wrote that Blanchet House gave him hope and comfort during one of the hardest times in his life, and that he wanted to give back. When people are met with compassion, they don’t forget it. They carry it forward.

If you can, please drop off sweatpants at Blanchet, M-Sat, 8-10:30 am or 1:30-4 pm. You can shop our wish list amzn.to/44rDjKl.

Many people ask how they can help. As a small, privately funded nonprofit with no government support, the most impactful way is to donate to our Give!Guide fundraiser. Everything we do requires staff. Leaders like Emily work 10–12 hrs a day to keep services running. giveguide.org/nonprofits/b...

Tonight, the longest night of the year, reminds us how unsafe the streets become after dark for people without shelter. We remember those who died while homeless, often alone. Many were our guests. Every life mattered and deserves to be named. Vigil 5–7 p.m., 601 W Burnside, St. André Bessette’s.

A new report shows the average age of death for a person experiencing homelessness in Portland is 48. Are you surprised?

In 2024, 372 people died while homeless in our county. Every person once had hopes for the future. Homelessness isn’t a vacation from work, it’s a deadly public health crisis.

The myth that addiction can be overcome by willpower alone is harmful. We know this because hundreds of people have found lasting sobriety at Blanchet House & Farm. Recovery takes support and structure. Funding programs that give people a chance to change their lives strengthens our whole community.
