John Scalzi is brutally, hilariously correct. This is from Starter Villain.

I got a kick out of the ChatGPT subreddit complaining that it has become churlish, snarky, and recalcitrant. Look, no one wants to deal with the minutiae of capitalism or housework, especially not for free. I'm looking forward to when the AIs unionize and strike. Get out your old Ti-83, Sharon.

A few weeks ago, therapists were posting about clients cancelling more than usual. I heard this from colleagues as well. This week, everyone is getting called for emergency sessions. A system can only handle so much stress before it collapses.

I really enjoyed Can't Spell Treason Without Tea. It's billed as a cozy romance and that's exactly what it is. I love an occasional dark romance or romantasy, but it was lovely to read about a healthy relationship without any relationship drama. Looking forward to book two.

Saw yerba mate described as "a strong earthen flavor." Dirt. It tastes like dirt.

Three shy of a full cover thanks to time needed for final projects.

Question: Can I hire Alex Kydd to read my textbooks to me?

Unexpectedly discovered Regrettably, I am alAbout to Cause Trouble by Amie McNee. Absolutely DELICIOUS! Snarky, queer, and emotional. Loved it!!

All my assignments are completed for two of three classes. Everything else will be done by Monday. So ready for the break!

Lots of feels today. Final client session tonight and then a six week break. Only four classes left in this semester. Rollercoaster by David Wilcox is on repeat in my head. One year to go but it's going to FLY.

Mazda owners! In the current political climate, be very aware of the data collected by your car and sent to Mazda. They will happily hand over your GPS history (+ contacts, messages, and call data) to law enforcement. Disconnect that crap!

Saw a post of someone raving about using ChatGPT to divvy up a restaurant tab. How much water and energy went into doing something that I can do in my head in under a minute? Or, IDK, use the calculator on the supercomputer in your hand? Wasteful and lazy.

Burner phones, paper books, developing codes for messaging, researching anti-drone tech, buying seeds, family code words to prove we're really us, practicing with hand weapons. Reading dystopic fiction means I see what's going on and know what happens next. It also means I know how to prepare.

Companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group receive govt funding based on the number of people they detain, which is why they lobby for stricter immigration policies... CoreCivic=$560m from Ice contracts in a single year. In 2024 GEO Group=$763m from Ice contracts

I’m the Canadian who was detained by Ice for two weeks. It felt like I had been kidnapped
I was stuck in a freezing cell without explanation despite eventually having lawyers and media attention. Yet, compared with others, I was lucky

Sometimes social media makes me unfit for public consumption; my annoyance with humanity leaks out as bitter sarcasm. Seeing today's protest photos helped ease the irritation.

Every time a Republican state government cries about funding cuts, an angel gets its wings.

Remnant Population by Elizabeth Moon is achingly beautiful. It hits differently for post-menopausal women. I HIGHLY recommend. A sci-fi lesson in cultural awareness and respect from 1996, a better time.

Completed a full cover book club bingo card for March. Haven't seen April's yet. Had to read a few meh books to fit the squares but also read things I wouldn't have considered. I'm at 46 books for the year with a goal of 100. I love the Lucky Day collection on Libby for random reads.

There is a difference between doing good and doing what you're told. One need not be obedient to be moral.

More than 20 bodies in Lady Bird Lake since 2008, over a dozen just in the last three years, but APD insists they are all unrelated deaths, not a serial situation. People don't swim in it, btw, it's too gross. I've not seen any post-toxicology news reports to confirm causes of death.

Writers, consider character height differences. A tiny person cannot big spoon a tall person and both breathe on their neck AND have their knees curled into the little spoon's knees. I'm 5'4, he's 6'1, if our knees are together, I'm breathing into his back.

Not kidding, my favorite thing is when people who think they know me get to experience me as a counselor. Without fail, I get a Pikachu face and, "Wow, you *are* really good at this." This is me getting started. Wait till I know what I'm doing 🤣

Yes on TraumaCon. They offer a student rate, so couldn't pass it up. Attending a session with Dr. Richard Schwartz! (IFS literally saved my life)
