This Semipalmated Sandpiper came in quite close at times. As close as 8' away. For a 7-8" bird to fill the frame at 600mm, it has to be close!

A Semipalmated Sandpiper standing on a sandbar. The bird has a mottled pattern of rust, gold, brown, and tan on the back and wings. the head is a base of tan with a pale gold on the top and sides of the head, streaked with brown. The breast is buff, streaked with brown, becoming entirely buff in the belly. The bill short, about the length of the head, and the legs are black. The depth of field is extremely shallow. The sandbar before and behind the bird is out of focus with only the sand where the bird stands being in focus. The area behind the bird is empty, just the pale reflection of a cloudy sky, completely blurred.
