Managed the trap out all last night, ended up with 4/7 with 2 lifers, spring usher and pale brindled beauty. Dark and normal chestnuts finished the count. None in the box but all hidden around the garden wall #teammoth

Got home after dropping 1 child last night and had agonoptrix ivy thing and a winter moth, also found a herald just in the door way, put the trap out later and that was empty 😔

Had a walk around key haven/normandy yesterday, bloody cold and the lot of the small birds had disappeared, still ended up with 74sp including bean goose, spoonbill, up to 92 for the year/month so far
Cutest had to go to a little grebe that was recovering from a fishing trip!

I do quite a few of these surveys each year and really enjoy doing them, certainly help me to become a better birder, well worth doing if you have the time

Thinking of giving something back to birds in 2026? A wide range of BTO surveys needs volunteers, writes Chris Harbard, and there's something suitable for every birder, whatever your level of experience:

Just deplorable actions!

Norfolk day 2: started at cley had a good but blowy morning there, the walk in the gravel has scared sienna for life 😆 still main highlights, jack snipe, water pipits, 21 marsh harriers in the air at the time took some beating! The sea didn’t produce much still a good morning, moved to skiffkney
December 16, 2025 at 9:12 AM
Day one in Norfolk with my daughter, was a really good day, ended up with 80sp for the day, humes warbler being a new one, highlights? Well there was too many! 8k of pink footed geese going over at Titchwell, 20 odd kites, 15 marsh harriers hunting at holkom was amazing.

Moths a bit quiet last night, got to just above freezing here, back garden is awful with one mottled umber, front door light had 1 mottle and 2 winter moths, going to need to try traping a new area lol #TeamMoth

Been out doing a winter bird survey for @hosbirding.bsky.social in the forest, stunning morning although cold! Surprisingly the Merlin, brambling and dartfords weren’t the highlights of the morning, that went to the incredible numbers (noise) of redwings still in roost. Conservative guess 500+

Hen Harrier found poisoned on a grouse moor in North Yorkshire.

Once again, details have only come to light through scrutiny of a spreadsheet - where's the publicity from the Police? This is supposed to be a national wildlife crime priority!

All very sad

Mammals really shone when we were away, red deer within ft of the car, views from the house of harbour porpoises, first sea others I’ve ever seen and one evening on the way back, a wild polecat crossed the road. Grey and common seals everywhere #scottshwildlife
