Attention membrane traffickers! I'm recruiting a post-doc to my lab in Dundee. We're dissecting the functions of intrinsically disordered domains of COPII coat proteins. We think they control timing of coat assembly and morphology of carriers.

Listening to the Proms. Has anyone scored the prologue to JFK for pipes and drums? It would be an awesome lament.

@dundeebirding.bsky.social @lainy.bsky.social Any idea why there would be a bird that is a spitting image of a white fronted cormorant at Kinnordy Loch instead of inAustralia or Africa? I have some very bad pictures as it was well out of range.

An inadvertent typo has led me to coin a new term for poorly thought out analysis leading to erroneous conclusions.

Data Wrongling.

You heard it here first folks.

While most public transport agencies think their job starts and ends at the turnstile, Dutch railways operate as a door-to-door mobility provider.

By investing in cycle parking and sharing, their ridership and revenue levels have steadily increased, creating a virtuous circle of sustainable travel.

I've just put together the first Dundee Bionet newsletter with a summary of the data from November and December 2024. We are at 930,000 detections and should hit a million by the end of January. I have a student working on making this data public and accessible. Let me know how you want to use it.

I have been on a data gathering trek this afternoon to retrieve detection data from the non-internet birdnet-pi in my network. So far we are at just over 900000 detections across the network (one site I couldn't access). Should be able to hit 1 million bird calls in Dundee by Burns Night..

Started to grab the MQTT stream from my network of Birdnet-Pi in Dundee. Aggregate and then play a bit with Grafana to see what is happening in the city's wild avian community.
Hoping to add few more nodes real soon now. Thanks to @dundeebotanics and the support from Hope @rspbscotland.bsky.social
