The Boeing 747SP was a long-range version of the classic 747, featuring a shorter fuselage (by about 47 feet), a taller tail, and improved fuel efficiency and speed for its size. I flew on a 747SP from Tokyo to SFO in November 1988 and that jet was a hot rod in performance.
