I'm a good writer with bad habits. Newest novels are BEEP, about a monkey smuggled to NYC by a plucky tween named Inga.Together they save the world! And LUCKY TURTLE, a NYTBR Editor’s Choice. “A thrilling, blistering tale of young love and old hate.”

In and beyond the garden right now. Talk about borrowed landscapes! More thunder and lightning and heavy showers following a short blue period… 🌱🌈 📷
Sweet evening at Cove Street Gallery, Portland, Maine, Marjorie Moore and I taking Critters in Art and Literature at Nancy Davidson’s Critter Show. We both speak monkey! We both speak play. #Booksky, #Artsky, 🐒

Red oak rocking November in Maine. Many of these leaves will hang on into spring, brown and clattering, forever challenging the idea of peak color! 🌱🍁🍂

Bird’s nest fungi in Megan’s garden! Harmless, of course. But don’t the splash cups and spore sacs look like the name? Nidulariaceae is the family (from the Latin nidulus, meaning nestlet.) Probably there feeding on compost, of which we used much! 🌱🍄

Really handsome late flush of Amanita muscaria var. guessowii after a little long awaited rain here in coastal Maine. Also known as fly agaric. Can get you high but I’m not gonna try! Anyone else noticing late October activity? 🌱🍄📷💦

Enormous puffballs after (at last) a little rain in Maine. So far a beautiful pasta with puff parmigiana, a cream of moon soup, and a lot of reverence for these resonant beings. Any more ideas for meals? 🌱 #fungi

Brought in Dahlia blooms before mild frost the other night. Plants are fine, and more flowers coming! It’s late, and later than usual, but not yet tuber time in Maine. Happy gardener! 🌱
