Exactly so.
Prime Minister Frederiksen:

We cannot be dependent on anyone. We should never have been dependent on Russian oil&gas. It’s also wrong that we have made ourselves dependent on China for new technologies.

In other words, Europe has a lot of work to do.That is essentially the most important conclusion.

The most important thing now is that we need to flip the switch in our minds. We have understood that in the era of great powers, our freedom is no longer simply a given. It is under threat.

Merz is right. This is a serious moment, and if Europe can't respond to that seriousness then national leaders must.

The US government is staffed by escapees from a kindergarten for troubled kids. Czarzasty is perfectly entitled to express a point of view, not least a point of view that everyone outside the US agrees with.

Sordid, hard to believe (maybe...) - and depressing.
This whole Epstein thing is so unbelievably sordid and beyond the pale you would not believe it if you saw it in a movie.
And to think how many oh so respectable pillars of society INCLUDING SOME WOMEN cosied up to that guy.

Rewarding failure is sadly how Ireland works
€100k salary rise for the Irish Water boss, yet estates like these 10 homes outside Cork city rot in a housing emergency because of a dysfunctional water system, whilst many live with dirty water every day

It is hard to have any faith in democracy. We vote, yes, but the sense - from the Epstein files and his networking, the City's dirty money laundering, the entitled behaviour of eg Mandelson, Andrew and a host of others, mainstream media ownership and bias etc etc - is that everything is fixed.
Living ‘by salary alone’ is pitch perfect. Not even just a humble ministerial salary at this point, he wants to be part of ‘real deals’
there's a lot in this piece but the Mandelson email about angling for some kind of job at JP Morgan because 'i do not want to live by salary alone' just exemplifies everything people hate about politicians, the City, and revolving doors between the two www.ft.com/content/91e8...

Exactly. All this nonsense about NATO's eastern expansion being provocative. No reading of NATO's military readiness suggests plans to attack Russia. But NATO sought to offer reassurance to Russia's neighbours, given Russia's only approach to neighbours is to threaten/dominate them.
Kallas: Russia has attacked 19 countries in 100 years without provocation.

"We need to seek concessions on the Russian side on limitations on their military budget, their army, or nuclear weapons," the EU foreign policy chief says.

'Progressives' aren't worried about deaths, but about who does the killing. Far far more people were killed in Syria than in Gaza. Silence. 40m Kurds have no country of their own. Silence. Iran. Silence. Gaza concerns them only because Israel is doing the killing and obstructing a Palestinian state.
'Progressives seem oddly quiet about Iran’s murderous ayatollahs. The lack of protest over Tehran’s atrocities reveals how some causes are deemed worthier than others'

There is a point here. Nation stated are/have been problematic in Europe too - the UK, Spain, Cyprus, Russia today; countless past problems. Nation states maybe don't fit too well in much of the world, including the MidEast. But a Kurdish state would be a nation state. Turkey, Syria etc are not.
