Today the Labour Government will introduce the Hillsborough Law to Parliament.

A lasting and just legacy for the 97, their families, survivors and communities.

It will change the law to prevent the kind of scandals and cover-ups they suffered from ever happening again.

Bill Esterson: ‘Reform UK’s fracking stance shows it is not serious’ - Politics.co.uk
Reform UK contends fracking would fix Britain’s energy crisis. But here’s the truth: it wouldn’t cut your bills, it wouldn’t keep the lights on, and it would cause a lot of pollution. Even in the best...

While Nigel Farage wants us to ignore climate change, part of the British way of life is under threat.

The seas around the UK are warming up. Cod and haddock are moving to colder waters.
Fish and chip shops 'could vanish' due to Nigel Farage's net zero opposition

Today marks one year since the appalling events in Southport that took the lives of Alice Da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King, and Elsie Dot Stancombe.

At 3pm, there will be a three-minute silence.

Nigel Farage says he would scrap online safety laws which include vital protections for young people.

Doesn’t he care if children are exploited?

27 years ago today Caroline Esterson and I were married. BBQ and bubbly in the afternoon. Reception and party in the evening. What more could you wish for?

Wonderful memories. Happy anniversary to my beautiful wife, Caroline. Neither of us have aged at all! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Chancellor’s right - our Industrial Strategy, trade deals & investment-led Spending Review deliver the stability the UK needs.

A year of Labour:

✅ Business confidence at a 9-year high
✅ 385,000 new jobs
✅ 4 interest rate cuts
✅ Higher wages & stronger rights at work

Reform is not on your side...

Labour is banning fire and rehire. We’re stopping the abusive use of zero hours contracts. And we’re protecting workers against unfair dismissal.

Reform’s MPs voted against all of these basic rights at work

Warmer, drier homes save lives, tackle fuel poverty and save the NHS millions.

Labour is expanding Free School Meals to over 500,000 more children.

In Sefton Central, 2,000+ children will benefit — saving families up to £500 a year and helping every child focus, learn and thrive.

An important first step in our mission to tackle child poverty.

Today we’ve published the Energy Security & Net Zero Committee’s first report of the Parliament.

It sets out urgent steps to rebuild trust in retrofit and bring down energy bills—especially for working people—while delivering warm, low-carbon homes.

The Tories crashed the economy.

In January, Reform said Labour was pushing us into recession.

With Labour, in the first three months of the year, the UK economy has grown faster than the US, Canada, France, Italy and Germany.

80 years ago, the freedoms we enjoy today were defended by the remarkable generation of WWII.

This morning in Formby, we paused to remember their courage and sacrifice.

Britain wants energy independence.

Those who oppose this Government’s path to energy security are standing in the way of that independence.

They’re standing against lower bills, high-quality British jobs and an end to vulnerable imported energy.
April 30, 2025 at 3:02 PM
Britain's energy security depends on the expansion of home-grown clean energy — cutting bills, creating jobs, and protecting us from global shocks like Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Those standing in the way of a clean energy future are undermining the security of this country.

At the @iea.org Summit on the Future of Energy Security, Ed Miliband just told us:

Cost of Solar down 90% since 2010
Offshore wind down 60%

We’re price takers on volatile fossil fuel markets.

Energy independence isn’t a luxury—it’s essential.

Renewables are now the cheapest option.

The implementation of US tariffs highlights the need for government support for strategically important industries, including steel.

I asked the Secretary of State if he shared my view that retaining sovereign steel-making capacity is vital in an uncertain world.

Community energy has huge potential to cut bills, create local jobs & boost renewables—but complex rules & market barriers are holding projects back.

Today from 3PM @CommonsECNZ Committee, we take evidence on how we unlock this potential.
