My new paper 'From Ruins to Records' in the Journal of Art Crime explores the ethical, political, and technical challenges of digitally documenting and reconstructing heritage in contexts shaped by conflict, climate change, and inequality across the Global South.

In my new paper with @bill-finlayson.bsky.social we explore the weaponisation of cultural heritage beyond armed conflict, and examine how its destruction, preservation, and representation can be strategically manipulated in political and social contexts—to shape identities or erase those of others.
📣 Read our Bill Finlayson & Bijan Rouhani's recent article which reassesses heritage values in the context of conflicts and diverse societies & calls for equitable preservation practices that respect diverse identities and memories associated with heritage sites.

My new paper, co-authored with our late colleague F. Nazari, "Submerged Past: Dam Construction & Cultural Heritage Protection in Iran," examines the impact of dam projects since the 1950s, exploring policy gaps, funding challenges & emergency rescues—plus case studies & remote sensing insights.
Our @bijanrouhani.bsky.social & his late colleague Farad Nazari look at how dam construction has damaged #Iran's archaeological sites & suggest cultural heritage policies that could lead to more sustainable development that preserve Iran’s rich cultural heritage.

The PADA workshop aims to introduce digital tools that facilitate the publication of archaeological and cultural heritage datasets, addressing the digital divide and overcoming barriers faced by Global South scholars and field archaeologists in disseminating their research.
Our team held a Publication & Archaeological DAta Workshop at #Oxford with our colleagues from #Palestine's Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities & #Jordan's Department of Antiquities to address scholarly inequalities and support our database contributors to publish their data in research & data papers.
