Black and white comics rule everything around me. #comicsky
Deadline U.S.A. #1 (Dark Horse). Excellent collection of stories, with Tank Girl, Johnny Nemo, and Wired World being among my favorites. My first time reading Tank Girl and it absolutely ruled. Just this page layout alone is wild. #comicsky #darkhorsecomics #tankgirl CC: @letitmelo.bsky.social

ThunderMace #1 (R.A.K. Graphics). Came upon about a dozen of these in pristine condition in a $0.50 bin. This book was rad as fuck. While a basic premise, the real standout is the gorgeous B+W art with bold, thick lines, linear shading, and dynamic panel layouts. Now I gotta find the rest. #comicsky

Baker Street Sketchbook (Caliber). Guy Davis is an excellent illustrator with a dense, messy, gritty style. It fit perfectly with the '80s London punk aesthetic of grime and violence, in dirty dive bars. Baker Street is an excellent series. This was a treat. #caliberpress #bakerstreet #comicsky

The Collected Omaha The Cat Dancer Vol. 2 (Kitchen Sink). Probably the cleanest black and white comic illustrations I've come across. This volume was even better than the last. Poor, innocent Rob Shaw. Leave my boy alone. #omahathecatdancer #kitchensinkpress #comicsky

A Distant Soil #1 (WaRP Graphics). This covers similar material as the "Immigrant Song" book I read recently, but I like this version better. I think this book is all pencils and no ink, which really works in its favor. I have #2 next, but gotta find the rest. #adistantsoil #colleendoran #comicsky

The Collected Omaha The Cat Dancer Vol. 1 (Kitchen Sink). I was lucky enough to find every volume of this recently. It's awesome. Glorious black and white illustrations, a character-driven story filled with initruge and, yes, lots of sex. #omahathecatdancer #kitchensinkpress #comicsky

Cheval Noir #6 (Dark Horse). "Fever in Urbicand" is one of my favorites from this series. Man finds a small cube that begins to grow into a gigantic network of cubes/bars (just edges, no panels) that eventually grows beyond the size of the Earth. Totally bizarre. #chevalnoir #comicsky #darkhorse

The Complete Alec (Acme / Eclipse). Kept seeing this in stores and then again this weekend for only $5 so I grabbed it. Contemplative, funny, sad... prosaic maybe? But in a good way. This felt very real, not grand in any way, incredibly grounded, and nostalgic. #comicsky #eddiecampbell

D'arc Tangent #1 (ffantasy ffactory). Always saw this in adult sections (which, now having read it, is 100% unwarranted) and decided to pull the trigger. Incredible! The inside cover boasts 4 issues per year for 4 years, but this was it due to drama between the creators. What a shame. #comicsky

Six Degrees #1 (Heretic Press). A curiosity found in a 50 cent bin, of which I snagged the first 3 issues. One storyline in 1861 and ~three others in the present. Intriguing so far. This ad for Independents Day 96 featuring Cerebus was cool. #cerebus #comicsky @moment-of-cerebus.bsky.social

Boots of the Oppressor (Northstar). This book made me squirm, wince, and cackle uncomfortably. So I assume that's mission accomplished? I put this on my list after reading one of the authors' stories in an issue of Caliber Presents, which is why anthology series rule. #comicsky #northstar

Twilight People #1-2 (Caliber). While I greatly enjoyed Mark Ricketts' "Warpwalking" from Caliber, this series pales in comparison (I guess evidenced by it being cut short after only 2 issues). Regardless, the line on the back of #2 goes hard. #caliberpress #markricketts #comicsky #calibercomics

The Collected Omaha The Cat Dancer Vol. 4 (Kitchen Sink). I was stoked to find this recently as it is one of those titles that checks a lot of boxes for me. I caught up to the story and characters quick, but really want to find the rest now. #omahathecatdancer #comicsky #kitchensinkpress

Elric #6 (Pacific). Great end to this arc. I keep hearing "Melnibone" in my head to the tune of "La Vie Boheme" from Rent. Loved this series, and now I have some context for the other Elric stories I've read, with more to come! #elric #comicsky #pacificcomics #michaelmoorcock #pcraigrussell

Cheval Noir #2 (Dark Horse). This Geof Darrow cover is excellent. I spy a tiny Tintin on the rim! Another great issue; really enjoying the Fever in Urbicand story. Rork and Lone Sloane are always good, too, even if the stories are nonsensical. #darkhorse #chevalnoir #comicsky #geofdarrow

The Complete Hate, Vol. 3 (Fantagraphics). I get the sense that most of this volume is when Peter Bagge started drawing digitally, which is such a step down from everything prior. It's still very funny, but it just looks...off. #fantagraphics #peterbagge #hate #comicsky

Aeon Flux #3 and #4 (Dark Horse). The ending was pretty lame. I'm assuming this is intended to be a bridge between the show and the movie, as overall not much happens. Is the movie worth checking out? I'm aware it's nothing like the show, but does it have value otherwise? #aeonflux #comicsky

Elric #5 (Pacific). I've been greatly enjoying this series, but this issue really locked in. Lower scale and more focused than others, primarily taking place in the realm beyond the Shade Gate. Also the monster just screaming "THING!" was truly horrific. #pcraigrussell #elric #comicsky

The Adventures of Tintin: Reporter for "Le Petit Vingtieme" in the Land of the Soviets. Found at the Paris airport, black and white, and in English! #tintin #herge #theadventuresoftintin #comicsky

Aeon Flux #2 (Dark Horse). Okay, this issue was significantly better. The action and movements of the characters and the "camera" are expressly shown that felt similar to the animation. I'm also hearing the show's music and voices in my head while reading. #aeonflux #darkhorsecomics #comicsky

Aeon Flux #1 (Dark Horse). Listen, it's not Peter Chung, but I like it. Maybe this makes more sense as a set up for the movie? (which I haven't seen) Whatever, I'll take it. #aeonflux #darkhorse #comicsky

Elric #4 (Pacific). The payoff of taking Melnibonean soldiers with a "disability" being that they are immune to the Mirror of Memory because they're blind was awesome. I didn't see it coming, pun intended. #elric #pacificcomics #roythomas #pcraigrussell #michaelmoorcock #comicsky

Elric #2 and #3 (Pacific). There was a confusing moment at the end of #2 that was cleared up in the editor's note of #3: the pages were printed out of order! Regardless, still an excellent read. #elric #michaelmoorcock #comicsky #pacificcomics #roythomas #pcraigrussell

Elric #1 (Pacific). I mean come on - Roy Thomas AND P. Craig Russell? And Michael T. Gilbert, whom I'm not familiar with, but seems to make a great team with PCR. And hell, Tom Orzechowski deserves recognition, too, as do all great letterers. #elric #pacificcomics #roythomas #pcraigrussell #comicsky
