About seven weeks ago my brother and I returned from a big two-week rollerblading trip around Thailand and Laos. It was exhausting skating in the tropical heat every day but extremely rewarding and we met some great people. We vlogged it: youtube.com/playlist?lis...

My mate is the only rollerblader in his town in northern Thailand. He had nobody to skate with. He had nowhere to skate. So he made his own skate park.

I moved to Japan almost exactly one year ago – in which time I've ridden public transit all across the country & collected 113 different IC cards (…so far!) 🚞🥳💳
I'm still missing a few, but at this point, it's enough to finally lay them out to make a map of Japan! #交通系ICカード

My friend @bigkamo.bsky.social has had a certain number of interesting adventures throughout his life, including an extended stay in Vanuatu.
Here are some tales from that time:

How did people find their way in Japan before smartphones, Google Maps and the rest?

@bigkamo.bsky.social tells us how:

I grew up in Australia and I always thought of an address as the following: property number, street name, suburb, state, postcode.

Remembering that time in grade four when I heard my “friend” JB telling somebody else in the class that he didn’t really like me and he was only using me for my Tarzan swing. 😭

I went to a skate park yesterday to indulge in some rollerblading and, after a while, a kid approached me and told me his mum had been taking some photos of me. She’s just sent them through this morning. What a legend! I’m normally on the other side of the lens.

<grandpa voice > When I was a boy we didn’t have no USB charging ports or smartphone cradles built into utility poles at the local skate park.
