Friday 03/10/2025. #MorningDogWalkFeatured fallen leaves on pavement like patterns on a rug, raindrops move like fleeting thoughts in the beam of my head torch, a jogger doing circuits from the roundabout to school, and the well-lit horse and rider like two ghosts along the trail.

Dottie is once again sleeping upstairs. This morning she insisted we head on one of her usual short routes then chose to climb the three flights of stairs to the footbridge to head home. I was all for the ramps but was delighted she had the energy and will to take the stairs so who am I to argue?

Monday 29/09/2025. #MorningDogWalkFeatured the man with a grumpy Frenchie trying to get his dog to walk, autumn leaves spinning as they fall past the street light, a distant tawny owl call drifting on the valley air, and commuters heading out to work all staring at their phones.

Dottie has an infection in a toe and so went to the vet yesterday and is on antibiotics as her immune system is wonky. She seems better already and hopefully this will clear in a few days. Until then I’m sleeping downstairs with her again to be sure she’s ok overnight. The things we do.

Wednesday 24/09/2025. #MorningDogWalkFeatured a cyclist singing quietly as he travelled down the road, a dog walker in day-glo clothing shining in streetlight, robins weaving silver song from berry-rich hawthorn, and a cat making its getaway as we approach its lair.

We’re now working on building her back up with a wide range of food as her appetite is very much back. Kibble, tinned dog food, chicken, tuna, boiled eggs, and a range of specialist drinks for dogs made from goat milk. Three meals per day plus snacks in between seems to be working so far.
September 18, 2025 at 6:02 AM
Dottie was weighed by the vet yesterday and she comes in at just 21kg. She was 27.5 when she was admitted 3 weeks ago so has lost a lot of weight (around 1 stone in non-metric measures) which really is shocking. They're pleased with her progress though, and want to see her again in a few weeks.
September 18, 2025 at 5:59 AM
Wednesday 17/09/2025. #MorningDogWalkFeatured insistent heavy rain rinsing leaves and pavement clean, people with umbrellas heading to high street bus stops, Dottie in her raincoat nosing through the dripping grass, and a robin by a streetlight weaving glinting threads of song.

We’re glad that all the tests indicate some autoimmune problem and ruled out things like cancer and insect-borne diseases from our European road trips. It cost us a pretty penny but was worth it to figure out the problem and solution and to get her on the road to something like normal.
September 16, 2025 at 6:00 AM
Thanks for the kind words about Dottie and apologies for the long absence. She came home Thursday 4th September and was still very unwell and only started to eat the following Sunday.

Since then she’s been improving day by day though she’s still very thin; back to the vet tomorrow for a review.

Tuesday 16/09/2025. #MorningDogWalkFeatured steady gentle rain falling from a churning stormy sky, fallen leaves being chased across the pavement to the fence, moths around the streetlamp on the end of the high street, and quiet music from an open window by a kitchen sink.
September 16, 2025 at 5:56 AM
Latest update from the vets is that Dottie is stable but still very unwell. We’re driving down to visit her and have a face to face catch up with the vet so we have the full picture and can plan for the coming days.
August 30, 2025 at 11:20 AM
No #MorninDogWalkFeatured for now as Dottie the greyhound is seriously ill and is in a specialist vet hospital in Derby as of Wednesday evening. They suspect some type of autoimmune disease but there are other worrying possibilities so she’s having tests, scans, and treatment, the poor old girl.
