We only abandoned our #GlenfieldRespTalks briefly during the initial phases of the COVID crisis, but only now really getting back to consistent in-person meetings. So it’s just so lovely to be back in our traditional venue. People homing back to their previous seats like swallows in summer…

And the NHS actually spends less on things we consider “waste”, like admin and managers, than many other nations.

The NHS may indeed be inefficient — but it is not “bloated”. Rather, it is inefficient because it is run too lean.

A proud day as a supervisor! Charlie Hitchman coming through his PhD viva w flying colours. A suitably probing discussion that sounds like it was great fun, & a worthy seal on a ‘tour de force’ (examiners’ assessment) PhD. Co-supe’d by Pietro Roversi, now in Milan, and Andrew Quigley at Harwell.

Extraordinary achievements. As a med student on his firm I found him humane with patients, kind to students and outrageously storied. Wouldn’t presume this captures all that he was about, just sourcing my fond memories.
