I went home to Southeast L.A. to cover the immigration raids there. And this week I've covered the raids in my adopted home of NC. Nothing--and I mean NOTHING--will give you hope like speaking to immigrant organizers and locals fighting back.

A reminder that seven years ago almost to the day, the CIA determined that Mohammed Bin Salman ordered the killing of @washingtonpost.com journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

I hired and worked with Jamal for a year.

Harlem Renaissance trivia:

Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Bennett were born a year apart.

Both came from messy families w/feuding, separated parents; both had lonely, peripatetic upbringings.

Both studied at Columbia in 1921. Hughes didn't stay; Bennett got a degree in art at Pratt Institute 1/3

Great news. This is what an ICE agent looks like in a mugshot. Meet Gerardo Rodriguez, 45, of Temecula, courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested for "illegally detaining a minor at gunpoint while off duty last week." 🧵

News agencies reported the incident over the weekend, but Rodriguez was initially described as "a man," not an ICE AGENT.

But the story changed today, as we learn the gun-brandishing lunatic terrorizing teenagers is an ICE agent.

No word on whether he still would've been arrested if he'd been on duty. We can only hope so.
