“Better we don’t open our mouths,” bench tells petitioner while declining relief in DA cases New Delhi, December 20, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) – The Supreme Court on Friday firmly refused to grant any relief to suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, declining to stay the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe into corruption case and disproportionate assets (DA) case registered against him and delivering a pointed warning to his counsel against pressing the court for interim indulgence. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi made it clear that it was not inclined to interfere in the ongoing investigation, noting that the Punjab and Haryana High Court has already seized of the matter.

Chandigarh, December 11, 2025 : In a significant intervention, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed Panjab University Chandigarh to grant admission to a Canadian-passport holder of Indian origin who was denied a seat in the five-year B.Com LL.B programme despite securing a much higher merit score than the last selected NRI quota candidate. The court noted that the university’s policy had placed the student at an unfair disadvantage and needed judicial correction. The petitioner, Eknoor Kaur Bains, was born in Canada to Punjabi parents who returned to India within a year.

Amritsar, December 3, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) : The Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet), a breakaway faction of the Sukhbir Singh Badal–led Shiromani Akali Dal, on Tuesday demanded that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) be brought under the administrative control of the Punjab government. Party president Giani Harpreet Singh, former acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, said the pre-1947 arrangement of state oversight of gurdwara management should be restored. He was speaking after inaugurating the party’s head office in Amritsar. Addressing reporters, Giani Harpreet Singh said the time had come to “liberate the SGPC” from what he described as the tight hold of the Badal-led SAD.

The investigation agency told the special CBI court that the financial trail in the corruption probe remains incomplete and that unrestricted access could compromise the investigation. In a detailed reply submitted before the court, the CBI objected to the defreezing of 15 bank accounts operated in the names of Bhullar, his father and firms associated with the family.

Chandigarh, November 21, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) - The Punjab government has suspended a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer Gurvinder Singh Johal, posted as Regional Transport Officer (RTO), at Rupnagar under the section 4(1)(a) of the Punjab Civil Service rules with immediate effect. The order issued in this regard says that his headquarters for duty will be at Chandigarh.  The state government is observing 350th martyrdom anniversary of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib at Sri Anandpur Sahib at full scale and massive arrangements have been made but the state government has not mentioned the reason for his suspension in the orders.

Chandigarh, November 20, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau): A much-anticipated animated film on Sikh history and Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji has been put on hold after a sharp intervention from the SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The makers of “Hind Di Chadar – Guru Ladho Re” announced on social media that they were postponing the release, which was earlier slated for November 21. The decision follows a formal directive from the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs, citing concerns over accuracy and adherence to religious guidelines. The SGPC’s Chief Secretary, Kulwant Singh Mannan, said Sri Akal Takht Sahib acting Jathedar, Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj,  has issued a clear order stopping the film’s release after an internal review committee pointed out serious historical and conceptual inconsistencies.

New Delhi November 17, 2025 (Bharat Khabarnama Bureau) - The Supreme Court raised a sharp warning on Monday over the growing use of small tetra packs for whisky, calling the format unsafe and easily mistaken for children’s juice boxes. The bench said the practice poses a clear public risk and questioned why states continue to allow such packaging when it can slip into young hands without suspicion. During the hearing of a trademark dispute between two major liquor producers, Chief Justice-designate Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said the appearance of these packs was alarming.
