Geography was one of my favorite classes. I remember spending hours with atlases and imagining those places. Though I found the book interesting, I didn’t like the writing style of some chapters. I have to admit I was about to skip a few chapters. Nevertheless, I learned from it! 🤓 #maps #geography

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Visa, quotas, financial requirements. Forced to leave but almost nowhere to go while being threatened with imprisonment and likely death. "Illegal" travels, sunken ships, bribing, and bureaucratic and political labyrinths. Transit visas but no right to settle and work. #history

The more I read about recent history, the more I am shocked again and again by how Jews and other persecuted groups endured terrible suffering. The book describes a period less than a hundred years ago, when people had to flee a terrible regime. We need #dignity, #memory

Just finished. Very well written story of the Grundgesetz, showing lessons from Weimar Constitution and terrible Nazi-Terror. We read the history of the ideals it wanted to protect: human #dignity and democracy.

Suggested to anyone interested in learning the spirit behind a resilient #democracy!

Recently finished reading. It is primarily for US audience. Nevertheless, it is good for the history and principles of modern #democracy and #ruleoflaw in the USA.
