Any other poets have a spouse who doesn't really "get" poetry?

Here's my latest published poem from The Indianapolis Review, entitled "I Take My Husband to Readings by Award-Winning Poets." Thank you, editor @nataliesolmer.bsky.social

I read a 225-page book yesterday, practically in one sitting. I can't remember the last time I had the opportunity to do that. It was glorious! (Props to my husband for taking the kids to the playground for a couple hours.) 😃📖📚

I've been so busy having summer fun with my kids, I almost forget to share that I have a new poem published in Lunch Ticket, about a childhood favorite toy: Polly Pocket!

Polly Pocket - Lunch Ticket
Jarmul's poem "Polly Pocket" reveals the persistency of childhood's often painful moments even as we become adults.

When @mycoachart.bsky.social and I were regulars at the Tiffin Inn way back in college, I loved the random, rotating lineup of friends who would roll through! So having the interspectacular @bethanyjarmul.bsky.social drop a refill from the corner booth just makes me sooo happy (and nostalgic).

I've been thinking about HOPE lately. How it's a radical act. How I want to live in it, to write from it. How so often, I've failed at that. But I'll try again. And again.

I was asked "How can I invest in my writing if I have no money?"
My answer: read craft books & anthologies (local library & Libby app), listen to writing podcasts, look out for free events/classes, join a writing group, and most importantly: establish a regular writing practice.

I have a client who is starting to submit poems for the first time. Which lit mags do you recommend?
May 26, 2025 at 7:10 PM
Reminder for writers: It’s the end of the academic year, so all the university lit mags are clearing out their queues. In case it’s raining rejections over there too. 🌧️

About 90% of the time, I write the title first when I'm writing a new piece. It's so much easier than trying to come up with a title afterwards! Anyone else?

Two "Mad Libs" poems up with The Interpreter's House.
Writing is how I wrestle with and make sense of the world. I wish this topic wasn't part of that reality...

Unpopular opinion: I love buying/reading a used book that has been annotated, underlined, well-loved by the previous owner. It feels like I'm in conversation with them. (So long as the original content is still readable, of course.)

There’s a lot of bad news right now in the literary world, including things that affect me. Despite all, I’m feeling grateful. I’m going to spend my life writing beautiful words, supporting other writers, and being a force for hope in the midst of it all. That’s enough. 💜

Poetry collection recommendations, please! For our anniversary, we’re doing a romantic getaway in the forest. I’d like to read poetry about love & nature while we’re there. What do you recommend? (I’ve already read most of Mary Oliver.) 💜🍃📖
