If confirmed, this would predate the known 1009 reference by ~600 years.

33 years ago at the Barcelona Olympic Games,🇱🇹basketball team won bronze in their first Olympic appearance as an independent nation. In a tense match, they defeated the Unified Team from former soviet republics —82–78, marking a proud milestone & symbol of national resilience.

This weekend, Lithuania 🇱🇹 salutes its Freedom Fighters. After World War II, Lithuanians waged a “war after the war” against the occupying Soviet regime. From 1944 to 1953, Lithuania’s armed resistance was the longest and strongest in Central and Eastern Europe.
On May 18, we commemorate the victims of the 1944 Soviet genocide against the Crimean Tatars. Russia persists in its repressive actions in occupied Crimea. We stand with the Crimean Tatar community—in remembrance, in solidarity, & in their struggle for freedom.

The Constituent Assembly of Lithuania— the first parliament of independent state of🇱🇹to be elected in direct, democratic, general, & secret election—assumed its duties 105 years ago. Gabrielė Petkevičiūtė-Bitė chaired the 1st sitting. At the time,women had no voting rights in many European countries.
