With AI, organic search is moving into a knowledge economy.

Information is rapidly available to anyone via AI overviews and a ChatGPT subscription.

Humans always want more depth though.

DA/DR is a dead metric and something that can be easily gamed.

If you're building links and focusing on DR alone as the value benchmark, there's a chance you're spending money on a ghostship or penalised domain.

In what might be my most stupid test yet, I got my Google Business Profile suspended.

I did this to test Google's "Live video call" verification option.

Over the years, I’ve helped optimise 100s of GBPs, and in this time I’ve seen Google become notably strict.

Since late 2024 Google has been actively indexing LESS. Largely in part due to the wave of rubbish content from AI.

The flow on effect of this is Google cutting the crap, and prioritising value. So when it comes to writing copy, you should too.

More thoughts on this…

LLMSEO and all the other new acronyms for AI search is still just plain old SEO.

As a local business you don’t need to optimise for AI search, you just need better citation data.

If anything, data like the below makes me want to go hard on Bing Places.

#localseo
Citations in AI overviews! @whitespark.ca

This is the first time I've seen a local citation (localsearch.com.au) appear in an AI overview of Australian SERPs.

There's a lot of talk around GEO/LLMSEO/AISEO etc.... at the moment, but really it just boils down to pulling the right SEO levers.

For any business that operates with a local listing, whether you're a plumber or an enterprise chain, you can improve the CTR on your local listing with Google Business Profile justifications.

Here's what I see working well with website content into 2025 so far.

> Each section should be something new, while also supporting the previous.
> Avoid repeating information that is already stated or that is a given.
> Ignore word count benchmarks.
> Benchmark content on format and medium too.

Here's an interesting correlation I noticed recently.

If you ask ChatGPT o1 pro to review a website, it will pull much of the information about a business from all the services listed in a Google Business Profile (if one exists). No other AI model I've tested does this.

A few reasons why SEO is always important to brands:

> A website is your home base. Whether people see your brand on TV, TikTok or a Google ad.

> SEO helps guide content experience. This can be site navigation, the type of landing pages you make, and the format and medium that content is in.

Link building can be a true differential in SEO.

Just landed a local small business client a link on a DA91 website.

Outside of the authority, here's the value in a link like that:

How to learn SEO in a practical way

> Create a niche site on Wordpress
> Buy a theme & hosting
> Pick a topic you love & know a lot about
> Google search this topic. Use results as a guide
> Write stuff WITHOUT keyword research
> Tweak content based on GSC data
> Repeat

Are you using GSC data for keyword reporting?

If not, you should be.

> Blend GSC site and GSC URL data
> Create custom fields in GSC site data for things like brand/generic, keyword length and ranking position

LookerStudio then lets you present this data easily.

SEO tip for better data analysis & reporting:

> Blend GA4 & GSC data in LookerStudio
> Join condition at landing page level
> For GA4, add this custom field to the "Landing Page" dimension:
CONCAT("https://", Hostname, Landing page,"/")
> Add/remove "/" pending your canonical URL

Here's how to use AI for better SEO content:

> Transcribe videos
> Summarise PDFs
> Analyse data sets
> Format content
> Embed internal links

Use AI to speed up processes that you would have done manually.

Don't use it to write from scratch.

SearchGPT uses Bing as its index for results.

But it can still pull answers from the ChatGPT database we're familiar with.

Some results look more like a Google search, where others are the typical ChatGPT format.

Given that, Bing continues to enter the fold as an avenue for discovery.

No code tools are brilliant.

I built and published an organic keyword roi calculator in no time at all using Replit.

Have a play with it here:

Tools like this improve output. That's how I view AI.

#SEO results in 3 months.

Part of the reason why I think this has worked well, and in a shortish time, is due to having productised deliverables each month.

> X amount of content. Could be 2 articles and a bunch of landing pages.
> X amount of backlinks. Guaranteed base amount.

Velocity is key.

Here's how to use #AI for #SEO content:

Sequence this in Make.com

1. Prompt via Perplexity to create content brief
2. Upload quality rater guidelines into a custom GPT - create content
3. Parse this through a GPT to trim fluff and focus on high information gain rate - trim content
4. Human edit

SEO & AI Overviews:

> What is triggering in an AI overview? Do you cover all talking points?
> Are there notable content gaps vs. competitors?
> Maybe you actually have the content, but not in the right format.

This is why monitoring, testing and updating is such a huge part of #SEO.
December 13, 2024 at 4:15 AM
Good SEO is iterative.

Content is never done. There's always more links to build.

Little changes here and there help you win over time.

This can be as minor as adding in 1 keyword getting impressions, that is yet to appear in your copy.

It almost sounds obsessive, but it works. #seo

Great to see growth on existing results:

> New content & formats
> Iterating old content
> Gap analysis to highlight keyword upside
> Content performance audit
> Mapped against priority products/brands

Fast implementations led by SEO data drive this.
