Bold move from the Economist on the day of another batch of Epstein files
“Age of Attraction”, upcoming dating show on Netflix, will test whether “age is just a number”. It is a romantic idea that speaks to an empirical truth: age gaps are not as unhealthy as some assume
Age gaps in relationships are not as bad as you think
On screen and in real life, they are getting smaller anyway

That game was so exhausting. Good, but also the kind of thing that made me almost pass out watching a YouTube video at 8:12pm. #gohawks

A little late, maybe, but just finished @arnieniekamp.bsky.social’s No Skip Christmas miniseries. Thoroughly enjoyable way to discover new music and feel just a little more festive this season!

Finished Vs VIII Lacrimosa of Dana this morning! While I found the combat a bit button mashy, with long hit stun, and slow evades, the twisty narrative, charming characters and Zelda-like exploration drove me through a really enjoyable experience.

I also finished Spy X Family season 3 last night. Maintains the charming blend of domestic comedy and espionage action, but I’m ready for it to start moving the characters forward, but it seems to be more comfortable as an episodic show than a serial

First finished book of the year is this collection of Facebook posts from the perspective of two mischievous cats. There are some genuinely funny incidents and turns of phrase in here but packaged like this, the repetitive structure quickly starts to grate.

First finished show of the new year is Amazon’s The Mighty Nein adaptation. Like Vox Machina, it delivers expressive visuals and expansive vocal talent to tell a streamlined story with lots of gory action and delightfully stupid jokes. I do feel like it’s just getting started at the end of season 1.

Underrated downside of AI is that now I feel self-conscious about my use of em dashes. I can’t believe Sam Altman is taking em dashes from me!

2025 was a year of setbacks. In 2026, more will come, but I will tackle each as they come, with my generous spirit intact, and I hope you do too

No matter how late I go to bed, the cats demand I wake up at the same time. This is why I usually go to bed early

Congrats to the Washington Huskies for winning the men’s soccer national title! Great game all around and a dramatic end to an unlikely, inspiring run!

When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

Louis C.K.’s Next Chapter
In a new standup special, and a début novel, the comedian navigates murky, post-#MeToo terrain: not quite exiled, not quite welcomed back.

A Fringe legend. RIP
The acclaimed writer Tom Stoppard has died, at 88. For the award-winning playwright, “art is a game within a game—the larger game being life itself,” Kenneth Tynan wrote, in 1977.

Does it bother anyone else how self-defeating misogyny is? It’s like, the straightest guy you know screaming, “There are beautiful women in low cut shirts on the internet! This is bad for some reason!” Get out of here.

Wicked part 2's subtitle lends itself to kitschy review headlines. If it's
1 star - Wicked: For Good (riddance)
2 stars - Wicked: Not Good
3 stars - Wicked: Good
4 stars - Wicked: Four stars
5 stars - Wicked: Five Good
