When writing for young bands,I believe it's important to keep young musicians engaged constantly, or they tend to zone out. After going through the glockenspiel part on my new work "Wildhorse Canyon Adventure," I realized it had too many rests. Check it out here:

As a composer, it's not hard for me to come up with something creative and ear catching. Making it all work with musical form is absolutely critical to a great piece of music. I highly recommend drafting out your works on an 8.5x11 or 11x17 sheet of paper and building your architecture.
