Never forget that rebels from the RPF, including current president Kagame, shot down the presidential plane of then Rwanda's democratically elected president, Juvénal Habyarimana. That his assassination fuelling already existing ethnic tensions in the region ultimately led to the genocide in Rwanda!

In 1964 Egyptian President Nasser repeatedly and openly humiliated Moïse Tshombe, the then president of Congo. The Congolese people outraged, especially since it was by an Arab leader, in response organised commemorative events to honour the Belgian victory over the Arab slavers in 1894.

In 1992 sloot Hecq Congo, een iconische winkel die decennialang koloniale outfits en uitrusting aanbood aan Belgische kolonisten. De winkel was gelegen aan de beroemde Rue des Colonies in Brussel, die vanaf 1903 werd aangelegd ter ere van de opkomende koloniale interesse van die tijd.

Het Belgisch-Zaïrese conflict van 1988-1989 ontstond door geschillen over schulden, wat leidde tot een open conflict tussen beide landen. Na Onderhandelingen werd uiteindelijk een deel van de schulden kwijtgescholden en werd een gezamenlijk beheerd fonds opgericht voor ontwikkelingsprojecten.

On May 22, 1960, just two months before the nation's independence, the first general elections were held in the #BelgianCongo. The Mouvement National Congolais, led by Patrice Lumumba, won the most seats with 521,187 votes, representing 23.44% of the total. Voter turnout was notably high at 81.8%.

On July 7, 1930, Prince Leopold of Belgium unveiled a monument honoring General Jacques de Dixmude. The general was famed for his role in the Congo-Arab War, where he founded the town of Albertville in 1892 as a strategic post to combat Arab slavers, whom he decisively defeated the following year.
