Astra reminding you to beware of "Schlägertypen" or "thug types."

I consider this one of the funnier beer ads I've seen, with an unusual streak of socioeconomic commentary (laudatory).

Poster ad for Astra beer. Depicts two douchy/snobby looking young men on a tennis court, wearing country-club type tennis clothing and holding glasses of white wine. Tagline reads "Astra warnt vor Schägertypen!" which translates to something like "Astra reminding you to beware of thugs." But this is a delicious pun, because while Schlägertyp is a German term for "thug type," playing tennis is referred to in German as "Tennis schlagen." So Astra's warning against elitist country club assholes whose dad can, like, fire your dad, bruh.

Better Know a Beer Cap #83: Bud Select 55, a discontinued and now obsolete one-up on Miller 64.

From that romantic, bygone stretch of the early 2000s where calorie conscious drinkers hadn't yet discovered Michelob Ultra, yet still thought Bud Light was just too dang viscous.

A wholly astroturfed Anheuser-Busch creation, a counter (I assume) to Angry Orchard. Looks like the brand was discontinued around 2017-2018.

Miller 1855 Celebration Lager (2005-2006): A special "hand-crafted" golden lager, brewed to celebrate Miller's 150th anniversary in July 2005. It was initially given out to employees and sold in-house, then sold solely in Wisconsin, then nationally in six packs and loose bottles in November.

This is interesting, I didn't realize Carling's ramp-up of US production had happened in the 40s.

I mainly know their ads from the 50s, and their laser focus on bougie dudes.

Astra officially declares Arschkalt season open! "Arschkalt" translates to cold as, um...it means cold.

(German followers, what temp do y'all typically agree counts as arschkalt?)

Better Know a Beer Cap #78: Goose Island Beer Co out of Chicago, circa 2019 maybe? The green beak tells me this was specific to Goose IPA?

Seems like Goose has been debuting a few different caps lately. I haven't been able to get my hands on them all, though ☹️

Ad from 1969, pitching automatic beer dispensers for bars which eliminate waste by pouring pre-measured volumes.

I don't know why need these newfangled contraptions! In my day the bartender picked up the tray and poured spillage into the next beer. And we got along fine. No grit today, I tell ya.
