Ironically, even though Picard's desk ends up crammed with shit, all of the PADDs are designed differently to accommodate different information display needs, and thus it's probably MORE efficient than a cluttered inbox because he can physically differentiate between different tasks easily

Something that I think could prove a benefit to society is specialized electronic pads that do exactly one set of tasks
By combining skeumorphic and process- or objective-specific design language into a dedicated physical interface, you get a much friendlier design than something like an iPad
