What a fantastic day in my backyard with Benjamin Campforts and highly motivated students from the University of Amsterdam.

Huge turnout at the anti budget cut demonstrations in the Hague. The cuts are shortsighted, disenfranchise students, stiffle innovation, hurt young scholars, create talent loss, undercut future growth.
WHO really wants this? #DoeHetNiet

Are you a grad student (or a recent graduate) that has written a model, or a component for a modeling system, or done something cool and modeling-adjacent as part of your research?
If so, consider submitting your work for the 2025 Syvitski Student Modeler Award!

Reminder for landscape evolution folks: model results can hinge on intrinsic reorganization and numerical inaccuracies. Thankfully, solutions like higher-order numerical schemes can help address some of these. Very relevant and fun work by @topoismyforte.bsky.social and friends!
For true landscape evolution model aficionados, we have a deep dive on response timescales in numerical models and why you should be skeptical of them (2/5):
Short Communication: Numerically simulated time to steady state is not a reliable measure of landscape response time
Abstract. Quantifying the timescales over which landscapes evolve is critical for understanding past and future environmental change. Computational landscape evolution models are one tool among many t...
