I'm considering taking the plunge and adding every FA contract under $100 million and have a complete ranking of every contract ever signed.

All my past contract analysis still has ARod's 2008 contract as the largest ever at $330.8 million in 2022 dollars.
Soto's would be $471.5 million under a similar analysis.

If you take out a car loan to buy a $20K car for 5 years at 5%, you end up paying ~$26K in total. You wouldn't phrase that as "the car loan saves you $6K for sales tax purposes."

If I ever want a laugh, I look at how bad Ryan Braun's 2007 defensive stats are at third base. Played in only 113 games yet led the league in errors and had an .895 fielding %... and he also had terrible range.
Rolen played fewer innings at 3B that year, but had 89 more putouts+assists.

This idea that deferred contracts are some type of luxury tax loophole needs to die.

Everyone is focused on the blackouts portion of what Manfred said he wanted to do with local TV rights, which is huge...
What's also huge is how much this would level the playing field revenue wise between the teams. Local TV contracts are the biggest separator between small and big market teams.
