For all the complaints about “the groups,” the ADL is one of the worst examples of the phenomenon.
Mamdani: The ADL doesn’t speak for New York Jews

in interview with @mehdirhasan.bsky.social, Mamdani panned ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt, who said the Democratic nominee for mayor has failed to meet with or address concerns of most Jewish New Yorkers.

For decades one of the big conservative debates was to either expand a beachhead in traditional academia (Mercator Center) or build their own (Hillsdale).

They went with neither and to just burn everything down instead.
conservatives sort of gave up on making their own institutions/intellectuals that could actually compete on the merits is a large part of what happened I think. it's a self reinforcing cycle too. your ideas and policies get dumber, you select away from smart people wanting to be part of your project

The sovereign is he who decides on the exception.
It’s weird* that the president can just decide to put a huge tax on American businesses without congress even being a little bit involved.

* very unconstitutional

My neighborhood was hit last night. The woman living in the top floor apartment was killed by the Russia drone. The building is currently being cleared out and the school immediately on the other side of the sidewalk is being used as a humanitarian point.

The Institute for Peace being that spot where the shooting war starts would at least be poetic.
Wow. Judge Howell is worried that if she orders DOGE to leave the USIP building it could turn into an “armed standoff” over unwillingness to vacate, and points out law enforcement has shown willingness to help DOGE. Asks if we’ll need foreign mediators to come in.

With the first crash I knew that the admin didn’t have enough time to the kind of changes necessary to suddenly have planes fall out of their air.

I’m less of a skeptic now.

2/5: Delta flight struck in Seattle

I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.
