Manhattan cocktail got its name from the 2-1-2 area code? Even though the cocktail is from at least the 1880s--way before the telephone area code! This guy (johnnymurtaugh) is a licensed tour guide? cc @davidwondrich.bsky.social

Feb. 18, 1924: “Around the Big Apple,” a column by John J. Fitz Gerald, appears for the first time in the New York Telegraph. The sportswriter has to explain that the title of his feature refers to New York. In time “the Big Apple” will become the city’s well-known nickname. 1/3
