An amazing meeting. James Stewart was working on NIGHT PASSAGE, James Cagney on MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES, and Orson Welles on MAN IN THE SHADOW on the Universal Studios backlot, in 1957. Orson Welles had asked Stewart and Cagney to co-star in a Shakespeare film he was planning, but they declined.

Happy birthday to Tyrone Power! NIGHTMARE ALLEY (1947) is his masterpiece. He lobbied the studio to acquire the rights and only got their approval after he promised to do more romantic comedies. His portrayal of grifter Stan Carlyle is his greatest, and NIGHTMARE ALLEY is a film noir classic. #BOTD
