Antiques Pedant, much to the annoyance of others.

Also “Spoon Club” (a society, not a weapon)
Heartbroken to share the news that Michael died yesterday in hospital after suffering a stroke in October. He will be deeply missed by his family. There will be a memorial service in the coming weeks, details of which will be shared here.

If you need a relaxing, easy & entirely TRUE Bank Holiday weekend read the last few copies of this once Amazon “Bestseller” (well, for about a day & half anyway) could be it!

Those of you with an “antiques bent” should get that seen to by a Doctor immediately and then buy a copy.

They said it could never, should never, be done. I ignored them.

Available now to pre-order via the link below. Otherwise on Amazon & all good bookshops in the next couple of weeks, but at least this way Bezos doesn’t get anymore “rocket money”

Not very often does an early D-shape buckle turns up (where did they all go?)

c.1730-40 this is a picture of the back, which should be polished silver, but I doubt it’s been cleaned in the last couple of hundred years.

Twitter down, so back here sharing *fabulous* Antiques related content.

Looks plain on the outside, but don’t be fooled…

A rabbit hole I fall down every Christmas. Revelling in the nostalgia and glad not to be eating the food. The culinary horror that was the “mincemeat omelette” lives on in the memory of many.

(All 5 episodes are on the BBC Iplayer)

Just about the best period engraved crest on a spoon you’ve seen for a while I bet.

The new King’s coinage is looking very lovely indeed.

This is a silver proof of the new two pence, can’t wait until it’s base metal counterpart is in circulation. (The penny is a sleeping Dormouse, so cute!)

An Antique for Halloween.

It’s cursed, obviously.

If you care for such things a short film on the engraving of Exeter silver is available over on my YouTube channel now.

Though to say the content is “niche” may be something of an understatement.

The morning thankfully put to good use.

I can live with the messy solder when it turns out the “gilt coin” set into the bowl of the George III silver punch ladle you bought does indeed turn out to be the 22ct GOLD third Guinea you thought it might be.

Detail from a very, VERY fine Swiss silver motorcycle racing trophy (Geneva, 1928).

Screaming Art Deco at the top of its lungs

There are quite a lot of pictures of cats over here aren’t there? Haven’t had one of a dog thrust into my “discover” feed as yet. That probably means something…but I simply don’t know what.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water…

Very much here to lower the tone and undertake “Antiques Pedantry” on a hitherto unimagined scale.

Buckle up.
