First book of 2026 - Katabasis by RF Kuang. A fascinating concept and Kuang's prose is always great but this left a few things to be desired in terms of pacing and the world building, in my view.

Pool reopened again at the weekend after dodgy heating had it out of action all last week. Been for a swim every day this week since Monday, and have done just shy of 30k so far this year!

Our train has hit something about 20 minutes out from King's Cross and they don't know what they've hit, but the train has a smashed windscreen and a smashed window. I just want to get to my hotel.

Already wasn't enjoying today, and then got to the pool for Tuesday evening swim and they've had to cancel it because of a heating issue. Would have liked that little dopamine/endorphin hit but maybe this is the universe telling me to rest.
