The #ShamefulEight just destroyed the Democratic Party’s chance and a strong mid-term. They gave up the first leverage they’ve had with the hardline GOP in almost three years. And got nothing for it.

In the wake of 1964’s Goldwater wipeout, William F Buckley worked to drive the fringe right out of the GOP (he delegitimized the John Birch Society and other far right groups.) the result was a healthy GOP.
