@petebuttigieg.bsky.social I liked the recent appearance on Trevor Noah's podcast. Have you contemplated the idea of a government run insurance company to compete directly against current insurance companies to help drive down insurance costs? So not single player but a non-profit driven competitor.

It occurred to me that we could just let the National Guard walk through our cities completely unharassed, keep an eye on the deployment costs, and then demand the administration to justify the wasteful spending for the senseless deployments.

Maybe it is time to ditch the on air and cable networks fully embrace streaming services in lieu of the FCC license threats... Maybe we can use all that bandwidth for something else now.

I started reading Limitatarism and the base idea seems to work best if instead you replace money with land area. How much land would be too much to own? Would it be ok for one person to own 50% of the United States? If not, what would be a reasonable amount of land to limit private ownership of?

If we were to discover clearly intelligent signals from another universe tomorrow, is it a valid concern any life could have died off and that we could be communicating with artificial intelligence?

@petebuttigieg.bsky.social, since the Republican party is very focused on "anti racism" and not putting groups of people into categories, shouldn't Jerry Mandering fall under the same "politically racist" categories as DEI?

Thank you Mr President for yet again saving the lives of 8+ billion people by not releasing the US nuclear arsenal on the world.

Hot take, "common sense" has more in common with general relativity than Newton's laws, it only universally applies to the specific thinkers frame of reference.

Someone should show Trump how to use AI... Then he could get non-ass kissing answers to important questions like how can tariffs be used to effectively increase economic output, and is climate change a hoax?

Interesting cloud over a snowy mountain last night.

@petebuttigieg.bsky.social The Republican party has been mostly focused on what they don't want the federal government to do. Have you seen anyone focus on what services they want the federal government to supply to the American people?

Seems like the best way to start more wars is to force other countries to arm themselves and to stop trying to keep peace...

The presidency should not be a reality TV show...

The idea of expanding the US is an interesting one. I think that we are at a point where it makes more sense to ask other countries if they would like to become a state instead of threatening them. Unfortunately it seems like one of the current administration's goals is to expand under threat.

@hankgreen.bsky.social here is an interesting thought experiment for you: Assuming we were able to communicate with an intelligent alien, how would you explain the idea of religious and belief structures?

I really hope this happens. I would love to get out of the Elon shame shadow when driving my Tesla... electrek.co/2025/02/04/t...
There's finally some Tesla (TSLA) shareholder momentum to fire Elon Musk
There finally appears to be some Tesla shareholder momentum to fire Elon Musk from the company after years of concerns...

@hankgreen.bsky.social we are likely in for a rough ride. It may be time to start a SciShow topic series on gardening, food storage techniques and safety, and basic herbal medicine / first aid.

With the state of rapid development of virtual reality should companies explore building space suits with opaque helmits and internal screens?

In face of AI adoption, why not put corporate taxes on a progressive scale based on revenue and number of employees? Higher revenue to employee ratio = higher taxes up to say 50-60%. Lower revenue to employee ratio = lower taxes ≈ 20-30%. The have a secondary modifier for max/min compensation ratio.

For the tech savvy entrepreneur. ERPNext is a very full featured ERP system that you can self host. I got it up and running recently in a docker container on my Proxmox homlab server to keep track of my consulting business books, customers, projects. Coupled with tailscale and I have access anywhere

I tried explaining to my 5 and 7 year old daughters that in pouring out a glass of water because "it's old" they were really pouring out 6 glasses of water. We rely on reverse osmosis for clean drinking water and for every 6 gallons of water processed we get 1 gallon of drinking water.
