Mistborn was Brandon Sanderson’s 18th book. I had been really frustrated with selling my books and querying my manuscript before I heard him say that. I don’t know what my new strategy will be, but I have comfort knowing that success isn’t divined from on-high to those famous debut authors.

I see a lot of folks posting their successes in writing, which is great. Anyone else experience the opposite? Like a pit of despair? Anyone else? 🦗 🦗

Querying authors—I need your opinion on a hook that will stand out to an agent: 🧵

Querying authors—I posted my query to PubTip and didn’t get any feedback. Trying to gauge if that means it’s ready or just lost in the algorithm. Can you take a look and let me know what you think? #amquerying

I'm going back and forth on my querying strategy—My nature is the "done is better than perfect" mindset and send out my query when I've had a 5-10 revisions and feel confident. Then I'll get more feedback from someone and I'll regret sending it out to 10+ agents. #amquerying

19 queries sent. 3 rejections. Goal: Collect 100 rejections/year. #amquerying

Querying authors—when did you know your query letter was ready to send out? #amquerying

Just got my first reject from an agent I queried. I read an article suggesting I aim for a 100 rejects/year. Looks like I’m making progress 😂 #amquerying

Trying to aim for 250-300 words for my query letter, but whenever get that concise it lacks voice and adds confusion. Anyone have this same problem? How’d you get past it? #amquerying

After three books and a deep dive on query editing, I’ve determined everyone should do two things: 1) Pour their heart into 75,000 words, and 2) Condense it to several paragraphs. #amquerying

Curious—how do all the querying authors get feedback on their query letters and synopses? I’ve used subreddit PubTips which is super helpful. What else do you use? #amquerying

How many drafts of your query letter do you go through? I’ve done a ton, and whenever I feel ready, and send a few out, I spot a change I desperately need to make. I have less revisions with my full manuscript. #amquerying

Need to edit 1000 words before I go to bed to meet my daily goal. Wish me luck.

Edgar Brave was just a foster kid—until a wormhole whisked him to a world on the brink of war. Now, he must become a hero to save his brother.

You gotta add “Alister” to your TBR list for this year. Comment below or DM me if you’re curious for more info.

Happy Monday! What are everyone’s goals this week? It doesn’t need to be reading or writing related, but it could be.

If AGI causes a huge disruption in the workforce over the next decade, what do you think will be the most important jobs to invest time and money into now?

This is so cool. My wife asked me to get supplies to make a dry martini. I don’t know anything about making one and I don’t know my way around Total Wine. I used ChatGPT to guide me through the store and tell me what each bottle looked like.

What’s the main character like in your book (whether it’s one you’re reading or writing)? One of the protagonists in Alister is Elena, a 17 year old girl searching for ancient magic. I have to admit, she’s a lot tougher than me. #writingcommunity #readingcommunity

I asked ChatGPT to talk about the symbolism at the end of the classic novel Brave New World. It covered some dark
topics that need to be talked about, but ironically ChatGPT flagged that it might not be appropriate. Some things need to be talked about BECAUSE they’re dark.

Going through some of the classic scifi novels. Man these are powerful. From A Brave New World:

Writers, editors, actors and artists! Brag about yourselves in the comments!! What do we need to know about you.

And PLEASE follow. I’m an Indy author trying to build a following and am struggling at social media.
