Topster of my First Listens for January!!!

Switching up the format this month (and likely for the year) because there were SO many albums I got introduced to and I didn't want to limit it to a Top 10 :)

Bottom 5 are the albums I thought were the most underwhelming.
This was good! It’s recorded beautifully thanks in no small part to the legendary Steve Albini, and the songwriting is quite poetic. Not my favorite country-adjacent release I’ve ever heard but definitely up there :)

Got some pretty mixed feelings on this.

A lot of the production and instrumentation on it is pretty fantastic, and arguably has aged magnificently as I could easily see someone working with a lot of the sounds from this album in the modern day. I think in its own way [1/3]

Really good mixtape honestly. Not every track is as perfect as it could be but IDK’s got great personality and energy all over this thing. Great beat choices and production, mostly solid features, all around pretty damn good. Excited to hear what’s next for him :)

I’ve been listening to Wide Awake! by Parquet Courts.

Here are my thoughts below ⬇️

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO

Never heard an album that sounds quite like this. Very trippy mix of psychedelia, soul, house, dub, and more. Very diverse but also quite trance inducing. Gonna have to listen to it more but I enjoyed it

Finally getting to this now that I’ve become a much bigger fan of Stereolab, and I thought it was very enjoyable!

Does start to feel just a tad samey by the last leg and its far from their most experimental release, but it’s got great grooves all over and considering [1/2]

This was quite good. Definitely more of a In The Aeroplane Over The Sea fan but the very fuzzy and noisy sounds of On Avery Island are really nice. Not sure how I feel about the last track being a 13 minute drone piece but it at least sounds uniquely haunting. Good stuff

This is the first Beatles album I listened to where I actually didn’t recognize a single track, and all of them, as I’d hoped, were quite good! Not the band at their most experimental for sure, but a great batch of tightly written tunes. Great album :)

Enjoyed this quite a bit more than Peng! just off the increased variety alone. Very krautrock-like in a lot of moments which I also took a liking too. Not my favorite Stereolab album but absolutely a solid one :)

New femtanyl is fucking sick. Really impressed with how it turned out there’s some insane highlights on here. Somewhat short at just 32 minutes but honestly with how consistently intense it is my brain would get fuckin fried if it was much longer. Really enjoyed it!

Not bad, but definitely the most underwhelming of the Unwound albums I’ve heard so far musically speaking. Recorded and mixed really nicely but a good crop of songs meander for too long or just don’t stick completely for me. Some great highlights tho

Peeped the Fantano review for this and it sounded like it was right up my alley.

It sure as hell was. Likely up there with some of my favorite Noise-Rock/Industrial albums of the decade so far. Definitely go check this one out if y’all haven’t already it’s sick as hell!

Some more post-hardcore cuz fuck it

Very impressive album, sounds very similar to Unwound which is a welcome comparison for me given how much I’ve been enjoying their stuff lately. Great production, lively vocal performances, the whole nine yards. Great stuff.

I loved this! Absolutely brilliant production from top to bottom, there’s always some new surprise with each track and the soundscapes are so captivating. Amazing album!

Guess who’s FINALLY seeing BCNR in June!!!!!!!!!
February 12, 2026 at 4:59 AM
Really enjoyed this one, feels quite loose compared to both Tago Mago and Future Days but it works in it’s favor. Quite the trippy Krautrock experience with some fantastic grooves.

That new Knocked Loose & Denzel Curry single is fucking fire btw

One of the most comforting and lovely album experiences you’ll have this decade. 80 minutes of tracks that are made with so much love and appreciation for the world around us and the connections we make throughout life. Absolutely worth a listen!!
On this date in 2022, Big Thief - 'Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You' (@4ad.com) was released.

📈 #4 for 2022, #240 overall

This was good. Started to feel a little samey by the second half and overall it’s not as inventive as her later works for sure but still a very enjoyable listen regardless. Think I’m gonna try Medulla next :)

This was good! Maybe my least favorite between this, Blue Lines, and Mezzanine but the production is still great and there’s some wonderful vocal performances from Horace Andy, Tricky, Tracey Thorn, and Nicolette. Solid album :)
February 10, 2026 at 8:10 PM
This was incredible. Very likely to be up there with my favorite Prog Rock albums of all time. Had high hopes for it and it absolutely lived up to them.

Unwound does it again. Fantastic album.

The CD bonus organ loop tracks were definitely an interesting choice, but honestly quite soothing. The main portion of the record is right on par with the best of what I’ve heard from this era of Unwound :)

Seeing all the reactions to the halftime show as well as the performance itself has genuinely given me the most hope I’ve felt in such a long time. What an inspirational way to show love for Latin American culture and music.

Together we’re all stronger. Love CAN conquer hate.
Finally tapped in to this cuz I’ve been putting it off for too long, and came out of it enjoying it quite a bit :)

Love the salsa oriented tracks like “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” and “LA MUDANZA”, didn’t care too much for the more heavily atmospheric synth-pop tracks [1/2]

I enjoyed this :)

At times it’s quite soothing with repetitive, krautrock-esque grooves, others it’s both nostalgic and moody, and occasionally you have moments of higher energy that keep the album’s flow engaging and interesting. A very nice listen
