A Villa Fan in Canada
@avfc.ca
Irish, former Villa North Stand season ticket holder, haven't been since moving to Canada in 2009 (last game was a 2-0 home loss to Wigan). Mostly Villa-related chat and opinions. Will always give a follow back.
Reminder to everyone that when Unai Emery says "contender" he means "favourite". It's a regular mistranslation he makes that he's never actually corrected. When he says we "aren't a contender for top 5" he's saying "we aren't one of the favourites for top 5", not that we aren't in it

City play on Saturday next week and we don't play until Sunday. So if they win, we'll probably get a win since, you know, we won't be looking to go 2nd 😂

You can set your watch by us needing a result to do something significant, and then failing to do it. In my 30+ years supporting Villa, it's only been a handful of times we've had the cajones to actually get over the line when it mattered

Wound debridement today. Yay, super happy fun time!

Leaning into raw veg for snacks after my disaster with the nuts and meat sticks (which had me piling on the pounds lol). Grabbed some broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots, peppers and, on my mother’s recommendation, a turnip today. Never tried raw turnip before.

Of course this be after they’re done with us having taken 4 points
Oliver Glasner says he feels “abandoned” by Crystal Palace’s owners and has refused to guarantee he will stay at the club until the end of the season.

Well everyone else, now is your chance to stop buying American products and paying for American services. If you need tips, ask folks in Canada who’ve been doing it for the better part of the last year.

It’s easy for some stuff, trickier for other stuff, and damn near impossible for a small sliver.

Very unexpected opportunity to put 10pts between us and Liverpool tomorrow!
January 17, 2026 at 5:19 PM
Fantasy football has been an absolute disaster for me. Running the very real risk of not winning the private league I have with my wife and my brother all because I gave my brother advice on how to actually pick his team and now he’s closed what was a 150pt gap down to 25 😢

Another one for man utd. If city lose another 7 or 8 like that we’ll catch up on them on goal difference in no time at all 😂
January 17, 2026 at 2:21 PM
Given that even a point takes us clear in second, it’s abundantly obvious we’re going to shit the bed tomorrow, have a couple of players sent off, and lose to an own goal
January 17, 2026 at 2:11 PM
I’d love nothing more than seeing man utd get a few high profile wins against top teams, have the fans start demanding Carrick full time, a deal being offers in the summer, and the cycle repeating again. Fingers crossed!

Just realized that we have to play out the remainder of the stage in Europe without new signings, who can only be added after the league stage. So we’re already down Malen and even if we get Tammy soon he can’t play in the league stage

Man Utd treating City apart here, albeit without scoring

90 mins of shoveling done and almost cleared it out of the back yard and driveway. Omelette lunch break courtesy of my wonderful wife first though!

There was no snow when I went to bed, and apparently another 8-10cm left to come before the afternoon. I did not go into the office.

Imagine spending as much as Chelsea have and still being a bit shite. Not even man utd can hold a candle to them

Decent watch this, but reminded me of how much of a low key shit disturber Barry was. The amount of times he "was done and could see no way forward" at Villa is a bit silly, beyond the Liverpool thing

Really sad to see Malen leaving. I know he's not really been used to his full strengths and, honestly, was never a fit for one reason or another, but IMO he was a really useful player to have in the squad - and offered a ton more than Abraham will offer. But if it's a money thing, it is what it is.
January 14, 2026 at 12:51 PM
I still don't understand why Marco Asensio isn't a Villa player. He went for 6.5m in the end, and is "only" on 150k/wk. that was all comfortably within budget, given we're spending much more on a year of Sancho.

Forgot this guy existed. Still only 29. WTF happened there?!
The San Jose Earthquakes are nearing a deal to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Werner has only played 13 minutes in the Bundesliga for Leipzig this season, after the club told him in the summer he was not in its plans.

That Gallagher fee spurs agreed seems way way higher than anything that was mooted for us doesn’t it? Honestly, at that price, nah. Wonder if that’ll put the knockers on any Malen outward deal? I figured that might be happening to give additional leeway for Gallagher in

Looks like every PL team got a nice and handy draw except us and Newcastle. Why would anyone ever suggest for a minute that these things might be rigged? 😂
January 12, 2026 at 6:47 PM
Wrong venue, right team. I am so very shocked...
Away to Newcastle most likely I would imagine 😂
January 12, 2026 at 6:45 PM
Will be very disappointed if we let Malen go to Roma for what will inevitably be half a season loan, for him to come back knowing he's not really wanted, after they don't pick up the option to buy. Firstly, he's a really useful player. Secondly, loans to Italy are pointless.
