Principal data engineer, chocolatier, cyclist, yogi, dad, gamer. I also like puzzles. And hops. Boston-ish. He/him.
Also replaying Dispatch. Can’t remember the last game that hit me so hard emotionally (complimentary). It has stuck with me fiercely. Very hopeful we will see another season (or more).

Highly recommend the game if you haven’t played

This year is pretty rough already, broadly. Which doesn’t help the burnout I’m fighting or the seasonal blues. Taking solace in small things I can: braiding my daughter’s hair while she reads to me, snuggling with my wife while watching Dropout, having minutes more sunlight each day.

Neighbor sent a photo, car took out a telephone pole nearby. Freezing rain out, must have hit an icy patch.

Huh, just lost power. Looks like part of the neighborhood.

USPS, you got so close to Boston, and then... kept going?

Finished Dispatch, LOVED it. Terrific story and acting, it really earned all emotional points.

Going to have to play it again and make some different decisions.

Early show of fireworks at the Boston Common were great! Bonus: we got the kids out of the house!

Joy! Car got swiped by a hit and run while parked for an oil change. Took out the driver’s side mirror. Should be straight forward to get replaced but still a pain of paperwork and time.

My wife picked up Blue Prince recently and been really into it. She strictly wants no comments or potential spoilers. She's roughly around day 11 and declared to me "I think I'm at end game". Those of you who have played can interpret that accordingly.

Warmed up enough today that I got out for a bike ride, despite high winds. It’s been the rare December that was so cold likely this will be my only ride. Both felt good and unpleasant. Glad I rode though.

Went to a winter holiday/fair at a local office park w/ lights and rides, good for kids.

I couldn’t walk 20 feet without having to stop for people taking selfies. Surely generational—the lights were configured for photo ops in a way they wouldn’t have been a decade ago—but was very annoying to me.

PSA to avoid Uline like the plague for your packaging needs.
Clearbags has every specific bag and board you could want and there’s also good old BCW for comic & art sleeves on Amazon.
Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

Took the day off to finish most of my holiday prep. Treated myself to Thai food for lunch. Now I had a few hours free to play games, and it feels decadent.

To characterize how tight my shoulder knots were today, when I was only 1/4 of the way through my beer with dinner, I was able to start cracking my neck just by turning my head. :-/

Very happy with my results so far this year. 100% clean releases form molds. New flavors are popping like I hoped.

Had a blast last night at Club Drosselmeyer. Performances were great, solved many puzzles, enjoyed the dancing. Managed to buy five whole war bonds! Our ending was nicely dramatic, but curious about the others.

At 10yo’s FLL (First Lego League) competition. There is so much energy and stress here!

Our team is currently debugging their bot after learning of new requirements when we arrived and needing to make changes to the code.

Last night was my company holiday party. Tonight is my boss’s retirement party. Friday, my wife and I are heading to Club Drosselmeyer.

All fun, but I am already tired. At least I declined to join last night’s after party.

Hot water is fixed, new water heater! And… they might have incidentally fixed a hammering bathroom faucet that two previous plumbers failed to fix??

I’ve been at 9 out of 10 stress level the past couple days, but this is really helping.

The good news:
- Did a TON of yardwork done to close out the garden and yard for winter
- Got my Covid VAX, minimal side effects (just a sore arm)
- finished airbrushing the first six chocolate molds
The bad news:
- nozzle head on my airbrush is cracked, need a replacement. Won't arrive until Wed.

Side effect I didn't expect: without hot water, the dish washer won't run.
November 29, 2025 at 1:21 PM
So there's never a GOOD time for your water heater to start leaking. But on a holiday weekend in winter is at the lower end of the options...

First snow!

It’s 40F, so it won’t stick, but it’s pretty!

Since we did an early Thanksgiving, even though we're doing it again tomorrow with different family, I feel like the "real" holiday is already passed? But hey, happy to eat more tasty food.
