I really miss the good old days of webring and geocities. No social media, no "parasocial relationships," almost no censorship; just a group of web-friends getting together, making their own websites, and talking about stuff they thought was important. Very diverse, and barely profit driven.
We could have a more diverse and less profit driven internet that centers privacy/user control, but Paris is arguing for the opposite. Maybe there’s something getting lost in translation between CA vs US but I’ve been covering this global crackdown on civil liberties for a while now & things are bad
