I think this comes down to two things having lived in Toronto and now the bay area.
1. Most scene tours that come to the bay occur in Sacramento. A 2hr drive during commute time.
2. Lack of public transportation. Having to find parking in SF instead of using a subway train is an extra barrier.

I never thought I'd feel this way but I'm actually missing going to a live metal/hardcore show. The closest thing is seeing TWY in March.
