I wonder how different tech hiring would look if we broke the status quo of bad tech and unqualified people trying to qualify technical candidates.

If we stopped making decisions on hiring based on gotcha puzzles rather than core relevant skills.

If we eliminated the resume as a decision tool.
If you're a strong fullstack JS/TS developer with Angular experience and an interest in learning (or prior experience with) ML, DM me a resume and work samples if you have some.

Would appreciate reposts! ❤️

It's really easy to get Jr/Mid-level devs to participate in developer communities with career development support. What kind of support or incentives can we give to Sr-level+ devs to make engaging and participating in a community more worthwhile?

AI has created an arms race between ATS systems and crafty job applicants that has resulted in the death of the cold application.

It was already the worst way to get a job and it went from "could maybe work with enough at-bats or particularly good personalization/creativity" to near impossible.

I think the wildest thing about social media is how frequently it exposes people's inflated self-importance and inability to get past their own confirmation biases despite an ENTIRE WORLD of other people's lived experiences available and on display right in front of them.
Why does everyone always have to be so contrarian in replies?

Here's your homework: at least once a day reply to a post agreeing with it without adding any extra thoughts or tweaks or buts or ifs.

Did my 2024 review around Christmas and things were actually much better than I expected. The whole year felt like a pretty scary rollercoaster, but we got by kinda decently, all things considered. Taxes are gonna be brutal this year, though.

Expenses are way too high. Gotta rein in some spending.

Happy New Year!

Largely disconnected from the internet during the holidays. Back working today cause I need to start prepping for when the bulk of the rest of the world goes back to work on the 6th. The life of an independent consultant.

Continue swinging for the fences this year. Let's do it.

So who do I have to bribe to get in this Laravel Cloud early access?

The preload hype has begun.

Welcome to a new week! This week, I'm trying to squeeze in as much work as possible before Friday so that I can spend the whole weekend playing Path of Exile 2.

I'm so ridiculously excited for PoE 2. This week is gonna drag pretty hard, I think. 😅

It's becoming a Thanksgiving tradition for us to eat at Denny's instead of cooking. Not just because it's so much work, but because none of us enjoy typical Thanksgiving food enough to put that much effort into preparing it.

Welcome to a new week! This week, I'm onboarding a new client and fixing some small, non-critical issues that were leftover following a huge release with an existing client last week.

Also doing Gobble Day and spending time planning out some upcoming sales strategy.

What's your plan for the week?

I highly, highly regret deleting the Brawl Academy Discord. It had so much valuable stuff that I had written about our content, future plans, advice on marketing, and a collection of all our praise.

I need to stop making permanent decisions in response to temporary problems.

Still one of my favorites by @benbriggs.net and a song I've used a lot lately to help me focus.

Hi! I'm Jeremy, also known as Atrophius on the internet. This is a thread where I'm going to talk about myself and all of my activities and interests so you know what to expect on this feed.

First, I'm a husband to an amazing wife and father to a smart young boy and a lovely new little baby girl.

Writing an intro thread that I can pin to my profile and I just typo'd "myself" as "mysql" if that gives you any idea of how much I've been working on database stuff lately. 🤣

A problem I had on Twitter was never being my "full" self on the site. I felt like I had to pick a lane in terms of my interests because posts got suppressed if they didn't get enough interest from your followers.

Hoping the way feeds work here makes that less of a problem.

Followed a LOT of tech people on here because that was sorely missing from my Twitter feed before. I miss seeing the interesting stuff everyone is working on.

Something that I've learned through the years that I'm most appreciative of is that it is best to unapologetically and deeply love the things that make you happy, regardless of what anyone else thinks about it. If you're happy and nobody's getting hurt, no other opinions matter.

Since there's not a lot of Brawlhalla people over here actively following me yet, I'm going to quietly tease that I'm working on some Brawl Academy stuff again. I think it might be coming back in 2025.

My favorite bugs are the ones where the client swears it's worked for months but when you look at the code there's no possible way this could have ever worked.

What kind of sorcery is going on in there?
