We hold a vision of a world without persistent poverty. Poverty is an affront to human dignity, a violation of Human Rights & people in poverty have unique knowledge & experience that can lower the barriers separating people & communities
www.atdireland.ie
'Choice' is the key word here; poverty erodes choices, choices about your education, choices about what jobs you can get and where you can work, and ultimately, choices about your future and that of your family. There needs to be no place for socio-economic discrimination."

We believe that introducing this #AddThe10th ground is an opportunity for Ireland to show real leadership internationally, yet Ireland is not the only country where this issue is on the agenda.

It is important for legislation to recognise the variety of ways in which poverty-based discrimination can manifest, including judgement based on accents, postcodes, leading to persistent societal shame and stigma

Will it start by the colour of your skin
Will it start by the way you dress
Will it start by where you live
Will it start by the way you talk
Will it start by the way you walk
Will it start if someone see you drunk
Will it start if someone says something bad about you...

Those with a lived experience also report everyday incidences of discrimination as a result of their accent, address, employment status etc. The stigma & shame that results from discrimination has huge effects on mental health & wellbeing. #Addthe10th
