Significant Evidence of an AGN Contribution in GHZ2 at z = 12.34
GHZ2 is among the highest-redshift galaxies discovered to date, exhibiting a spectrum rich with prominent emission lines in the rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) and optical. These features raise critical q...

Check out our new discovery! JWST is finding black holes in the very early universe, and this galaxy is the most distant one with a clear signal of a growing black hole! Awesome work by lead author Anthony Taylor at @utaustin.bsky.social !

The early universe continues to amaze - led by UT/CFC postdoc Anthony Taylor, we've discovered an extremely distant black hole (the most distant "broad line AGN"). This black hole is *massive*, and may even have more mass than its surrounding galaxy! Check out more here:

Come join us!
UT Austin Astronomy is hiring a tenure-track faculty member this year. Come be Caroline's colleague! (You'll have to be my colleague, too, but don't let that dissuade you.)
UT Austin is hiring a new assistant professor this year! Come join us! We have a great group of faculty here, and awesome students/postdocs. And telescopes! And Austin is in the habitable zone for at least 8 months every year.
