M33 taken 3.1.26 from Newtongrange. SeeStar50 83 mins of 10sec exposures. Bright full moon gave large gradient across the image. Used Siril, ceramic, DeNoise and Lightroom. Some 2.9m light years away and the third largest galaxy in the local group.

A splendid cold walk to Fiddlers Gill to see the fab but rusting Victorian #Braidwood Telescope! Once part of the now long-gone Lanark Observatory, its optics are safe at the Lanark Museum. Sadly I see no hope in restoring this beauty tho, that's been long-abandoned in this field ☹️ #histsci 🔭🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Geminids are already firing and the peak should be tonight (14 Dec), clouds permitting. The Moon is kindly hiding too. These are a few from Friday night. Capturing 200+ in each of our cameras overnight (we have 17 in the Society). 🔭

A fascinating, clear and understandable talk by Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell explaining how technological developments (for example CMOS cameras, leading to much shorter exposure times) have led to the realisation that many more objects in the universe than we realised are variable.

2025’s Geminids will be the best meteor shower of the year
With a waning Moon and a denser-than-ever debris trail, 2025’s Geminids might be the year’s best meteor shower, and 2026’s could be amazing.
