I love seeing more articles about the energy demands of AI! It can be hard to grasp what digitization means since the digital infrastructure is ‘in the cloud', out of reach. In reality, even ‘the online’ exists somewhere — in data centers that need loads of land, energy, and water resources.
The AI boom has fuelled the rapid expansion of data centres, which are large networks of computers needed to store and process data. While AI can be useful, its widespread use comes with a major problem: its large appetite for energy strains power grids: https://buff.ly/4gdsUqP
