Well, the Labour Party making us a more Right wing country certainly wasn't on my bingo card.

I do hope the PLP tell them to get fecked....

This timeline is hella sucky and I'm calling for a do-over.

Exactly right.
Her portrayal of asylum seekers doesn't just respond to the racist narratives of the Far Right: by othering asylum seekers as unworthy winners of riches, in implicit contrast to struggling families, Shabana Mahmood actively promotes and feeds those Far Right lies.
For Shabana Mahmood to attack some of the most cruelly treated people in the world as having won a "golden ticket" because they manage to get to and claim asylum in Britain is unforgiveable.

A new, far right, low for which I can think of no precedent, by any UK Government.
November 16, 2025 at 11:29 AM
Actually I think it's the constant pandering to 'legitimate concerns' and the need to feed red meat to the right wing that is tearing us apart.
Shabana Mahmood tells Sunday Times it should take 20 years for somebody granted refugee status in UK to secure permanent status (ie, reapply 6 times) if came without permission.

Paper says Denmark has toughest settlement timeline (8 years) but UK govt wants longer

Shabana Mahmood: ‘Illegal migration is tearing Britain apart’
The home secretary is planning to introduce a 20-year wait for permanent stay to end a ‘golden ticket’ for asylum seekers

One thing I will say is that this immigration-bashing "strategy" is now indelibly Starmer's. It is Starmerism. Cooper was inertia personified but Mahmood is Starmer's key departmental promotion, brought in to do just this

And given that Starmer looks doomed, what future does this strategy have?
The government just keeps doubling down on the strategy that’s taken it to genuinely historical unpopularity ever harder.

The horse will be flogged until it sprints.
the video goes on and on about illegal immigration and yet the new proposal will target legal migration by confirmed refugees

Red meat for right wing.
FFS.
What happens when, as he inevitably will, Starmer gets the boot?

Trump is going to invade Venezuela to distract from the Epstein files and he thinks he deserves a peace prize.
November 15, 2025 at 7:34 AM
This disgusting vicious government has entirely lost the plot.
Get Starmer out.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is to announce Saturday that “the era of permanent protection for refugees” is over in the UK.

She’s also going to say the UK’s borders are “out of control”.

Apart from sounding like a trailer for a Reform government, it’s already causing anger within Labour.
UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Yes, this.
Have written for the New Statesman about why, if he will not accept an apology, the BBC should welcome a Trump lawsuit. They should show guts and fight it because impartially matters and if they don't, they will have tacitly accepted a rewritten history.

Trump's attack can rescue the BBC
The BBC should use the threat of legal action to strike a blow for press freedom

So woke.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Yet the media is desperate to convince us they are a serious party, ready to govern.
🤷🏻‍♂️
It looks like Reform has lost *another* councillor at Kent County Council.

Isabella Kemp now sits as an Independent, according to the council website.

Means that Kent has lost ***16%*** of its Reform councillors since May👀

Reform Is Losing Councillors Elected In May At An 'Unusual' Rate
Reform UK has lost more than 5 per cent of the councillors it had elected six months ago, an analysis by PoliticsHome has found.

Agreed. We love to see it.
Can’t stop thinking about all the robber baron fucks that held secret meetings and spent MILLIONS AND MILLIONS in bribes and campaign investments and attack ads and media manipulation trying to tank Mamdani currently having the dawning realization that their money is completely and utterly useless.
November 5, 2025 at 12:16 PM
How utterly pathetic.
Honestly, do they even want to lead?
I'm not convinced.
But a truly embarrassing response from Labour Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson on Sky: “I’ll be honest, I don’t follow American politics especially closely”.

Which says more than she thinks.

This is good to read.
Don't believe the myth of young men flocking to Reform en masse (though complacency would also be foolish)
"The most common response among men aged 18-25, as with their female peers, is to state that they would never consider voting for Reform."

Stuart Turnbull-Dugarte & Emilia Belknap argue that most British young men reject the right

If you're protesting, it's vital you know your rights

Save these bust cards, share with others, write phone numbers on your arm, look for legal observers if you need assistance and remember to say "no comment" without a lawyer

Keep yourselves and each other safe

The idea that Israel can police itself is just pissing in the wind.

International Criminal Court now!
Following the documented rape of a Palestinian prisoner in Sde Teyman, the military prosecutor ordered the arrest of the soldiers involved.
There was govt-supported riots trying to prevent their arrest. In response, she leaked the video evidence.
Now she has been removed by the Israeli govt.
