By the way, when I learned that many Europeans find Ethan Hawke attractive, I was shocked.
A full-on culture-shock moment… haha.
#OddObservations #CultureShockBits
The first time I watched Before Sunrise, I honestly thought Jesse was cast because Ethan Hawke isn’t handsome — so the film could highlight “the soul.”
Haha…
Recently I studied the script line by line for English practice, and realized I don’t even like Jesse’s “soul” that much.

Artemis Forest — DIY Body Oil
On warm skin, it rises like a quiet forest draft: clear and grounding.

Deeply Indonesian — salty, sweet, and unapologetically oily.
Not my style at all.
But Indonesian cappuccino? I actually like it. Less foam, more coffee aroma.

Soto Iga Bakar Betawi
— my favourite Indonesian dish.
Grilled beef rib served in a coconut-milk broth layered with Southeast Asian spices.
It usually comes with emping melinjo — slightly bitter, light, and perfect on the side.

Deeply Disney — cute, warm, and utterly clichéd.

[No Other Choice / 어쩔 수가 없다]
Directed by Park Chan-wook.
A solid film, not his finest, but worth the watch.

Chungmuro remains a filthy, male-dominated machine, built on the exploitation and humiliation of women.
Masterpieces don’t cleanse a system that feeds on them.

[Solaris]
Reading this with a tired body and a foggy post-travel brain.
Still, Solaris pulls me in — strange, magnetic, full of quiet gravity.
Not just Solaris, really. Nature on Earth feels just as unknowable and alive.

Matoa (Pometia pinnata) — a local Indonesian fruit.
It’s extremely seasonal, only appearing for a few days each year.
The taste is like a mix of lychee and jackfruit.
You can occasionally find it in East Malaysia too.

I can only taste bitterness and sourness in coffee — nothing more.
My taste buds seem completely useless for all those “cassia, jackfruit, caramel” descriptions.
I honestly admire people who can taste a whole universe in a cup.

Sup Terung Dayak (Solanum lasiocarpum) — a traditional soup made from the Dayak wild “eggplant.”
It tastes like a mix of eggplant, tomato, and tamarind.
A dish rooted in the rainforest — sour, bright, and full of surprises.

There’s a big butterfly in this photo, can you spot it?
Take a closer look at the “dead leaf” in the middle.

The texture says “worm,”
the taste says “shrimp.”
My brain is still negotiating.

Tried a local vegetable today — Paku Midin (Stenochlaena palustris).
People say it’s found only in Sarawak.
It’s a type of wild fern, but more tender and crisp than any fern I’ve had before, with a fresh, grassy aroma. Loved it.

Some people go into nature to feel.
Others only stay long enough to prove they were there.
A photo, a “wow,” and they’re already done.

I don’t think we love the same thing.

Came across a wild fruit in the rainforest today — they call it the Mulu apple.
Small, crisp, and a little sour — tastes great.
I love finding things like this along the way.
