A friend got me into playing Star Citizen again and I am very happy with my character so far.

Zero thoughts in her head...

Yoshiro's confrontation with the Jorogumo was fraught with innner conflict. How could he draw a blade against his own mother? Was the Mamono Dagger making the choice for him? It felt like it was starving in his hand…

The intense emotions Lady Saori felt after failing to defend Castle Chiyo led to her Jorogumo transformation. She attacked those she originally swore to protect, and her presence drew even more Yokai to the fearful village.

Was there any trace of Lady Saori left within the Jorogumo while she laid waste to Castle Chiyo and attacked her son? Yoshiro believed so, choosing to disarm and defeat her, rather than kill her outright.

Ashamed of Yoshiro abandoned his mother to prove himself, Masaki ordered his son back to the castle. When Yoshiro arrived, corpses and flames flooded his vision, while his ears were pierced by an inhuman scream...

To destroy the Jorogumo was a hopeless endeavor - but the Yokai's spirit could be banished. Rumors say Yoshiro trapped it in a distant cave as a desperate last resort.

A family heirloom handed down for generations, Yoshiro inherited the Mamono Dagger from his mother. Only by chance would he discover its mystical properties while desperately defending himself against a possessed villager.

In modern day, the Jorogumo's legend rarely spreads beyond hushed Samurai halls. But Guljin brought peace and open ears. She was quite intrigued by the tales of ancient warriors who did what must be done, no matter the cost.

Yoshiro fully denied the possibility that his mother became the Jorogumo. It wasn't until they came face-to-face, and he heard her demonic voice singing that he instantly recognized the same lullaby she sang to him as a boy.

Yoshiro, the son of Lady Saori, was absent from their castle when it fell under siege by a rival daimyo. Defying his mother's wishes, he sought to rendezvous with his father's army and prove himself on the battlefield.

Lady Saori's love for her little boy knew no bounds.
Yoshiro naturally returned his mother's affection as a
child, but Saori blamed her husband, Masaki, for stifling
their son's emotions as he grew into a fierce warrior.

Saori's ancestors were part of the original settlers of the Myre. When there was no other place to call home, they made the swamp their home. Castle Chiyo was built as a pillar of legacy, a monument to the past and future.

The battle was all but won. Amid cowering villagers, Katsuo and his men laughed viciously--until they heard a screeching roar never meant for mortal ears. The ground shook. Walls trembled. And darkness was unleashed.

"I know not where our son is. In the mayhem of battle, I could not find him. I pray he has gone to you, that you may both return to me. I wish to lay eyes on you both. To hold you in my arms. I must go. Hurry, my love."

- Saori's Letter

"My family's shrine has stood in the heart of the castle for centuries. Built with love, duty and reverence. Its protection is my responsibility. If they breach through the walls, there you will find me."

"Masaki, my love. I hope this message finds you in time. Katsuo has come. And, with him, he has brought death. We need you back. I will do what I can, hold on for as long as I can. May the sunrise bring you home to me."

- Saori's Letter

Left alone, Saori was surrounded by the enemy. Behind
her, the family altar was in ruin. Her shamisen
destroyed. Her home in flames. She fell to her knees,
despair taking hold of her. All was lost. She had failed.

When the wind is calm and the night is quiet, villagers can sometimes hear Saori playing the shamisen. The song is one near and dear to her. Notes from her family's own history, passed down from mother to daughter.

The timing of Katsuo's attack was no accident. Saori's husband had been called away to the Imperial City, to oversee the construction of an important addition. Without its lord and his army, the castle was left vulnerable.

Since Jorogumo are spiders that reach an extremely old age I was wondering if Saori could simply turn into one due to her emotions.

I asked @haplogynae.bsky.social (who was a miko and is a big fan of spiders) about it all. She explained that it is possible but not as it may be shown in-game:

While some Ladies would be content in their castle, Saori would often go down to the village market, greeting merchants, villagers and guards alike. She treated everyone with respect, and they loved her in return.

When the attackers came, there was no army, no leadership. Alarm bells rang loud, fires raged in the night. Naginata in hand, Saori fought alongside what few warriors remained. A desperate attempt to save her home.

Some warriors swore they saw things they couldn't explain. Shadows that crept and crawled. Strange lights, pulsing with dread. They kept on fighting, but felt a sense of unease. As if something terrible was lying in wait.
