Forbes rates how philanthropic billionaires are, & #ElonMusk scored a 1 out of 5. In 2023, for the 3rd consecutive year, the Musk Foundation gave away a smaller % of its assets than was required. Mr. Musk did, however, donate $288 million to #Republican candidates and political organizations.

We’re living in the age of what I call reverse philanthropy: instead of giving, you get (See: Trump’s free 747.) And in setting this example, Mr. Trump is making our country’s rich people worse, by emboldening them to embrace his transactional style of governing.

The reality is that renewables plus storage are rapidly reducing the Au demand for fossil fuels. Demand for gas is expected to decline more slowly than coal, partly because of the – contested – claim it is a cleaner alternative, & gas generation can be ramped up and down more quickly than coal.

The [Federal Au] gov’t, of course, argues that environmental protection & expedited development need not be mutually exclusive.

It’s a hard case to make if you are relying on the support of the current Coalition parties to get your legislation through.

The National Climate Risk Assessment sets out what Australia expects under 3 levels of global heating:
1.5, 2 & 3 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
Human-induced warming has reached 1.5 deg.
Without strong action the world will reach 2.7 deg by 2100.
