By about 1989, my dad fell on hard times and our disk drive broke. There was no way to replace it (I was 12). My days of home computing and programming were over until I went to college in 1996. I took computers in high school, but our teachers didn't know computers at all. #GenX #Computers

My dad was super interested in electronics and in the early 80's, computers seemed to be in a closely related category. Radio Shack was his favorite store. Eventually, as computers became more complex, he gave up on them and stuck with electronics repair. I became the primary computer user.

I usually say that the Commodore VIC 20 was our first computer. Technically, my dad had purchased the TRS 80 first and I noodled around on that as a kid. But he ended up returning it and brought home the VIC 20. #nostalgia #computers #genx
